A dramatic camera move can break character continuity even when its individual moments look convincing. A face seen in selfie point of view may become a different face during a reveal pan. A jacket may change color as the camera rises. The subject may jump from the left side of a street to its center when the shot pulls into an aerial view.
Wan 3.0 is designed to use references across people, objects, space, and style, but that capability is not a guarantee of zero drift. The practical task is to make each camera change a controlled handoff. Define what must remain fixed, preserve spatial anchors, time the transition, and test the most difficult handoff before attempting the full sequence.
Draw the Shot as a Continuity Path
Do not begin with a paragraph of cinematic adjectives. Begin with three states:
- the opening frame;
- the handoff frame where the camera behavior changes;
- the final frame after the new view is established.
For a travel scene, the path might be: close selfie framing while the subject walks beside a red wall; a pan reveals the street while the subject remains foreground left; the camera rises and pulls back while the subject continues along the same wall.
That path establishes continuity better than “selfie to epic drone reveal.” It names the subject’s location before, during, and after the transition. It also exposes contradictions. A shot cannot preserve a close frontal face, turn instantly behind the subject, and reveal a wide overhead landscape at the same moment without leaving the model to invent the missing geometry.
Create a Compact Identity Lock
An identity lock is a short description of features that may not change. It should be repeated with stable wording rather than rewritten in increasingly ornate prose.
Include only observable identifiers:
- face shape, hair style, and visible age range;
- the exact top, outer layer, trousers, shoes, and accessories;
- distinctive colors, patterns, closures, or logos;
- any carried object and which hand holds it;
- the subject’s travel direction and starting position in the frame.
Avoid relying on a name alone. “Keep Daniel consistent” provides less visual information than “the same short-haired man in a mustard rain jacket with a black diagonal strap.” Likewise, “same clothes” is weaker than repeating the features most likely to drift.
Reference media should show those features clearly. A face reference with heavy shadow does not resolve facial detail. A waist-up reference cannot fully define shoes or stride. When several references are used, name their responsibilities: one controls identity, one controls clothing, and one controls the environment. Do not leave conflicting references for the model to reconcile silently.
Preserve Spatial Anchors Through the Move
Character continuity is also spatial continuity. A subject may retain the same face and clothes yet appear to teleport when the perspective changes. Choose two or three environmental anchors that survive the handoff.
Useful anchors include a painted wall, doorway, road edge, lamp post, vehicle, horizon, or shadow direction. Describe the relationship, not merely the object: “the subject stays one step from the red wall,” “the doorway remains behind the subject’s right shoulder,” or “the road continues toward the distant tower.”
Movement needs the same discipline. State whether the subject keeps walking, pauses, turns, or looks toward the camera. If the camera rises while the subject walks, keep the direction and pace conceptually continuous. A new camera angle should not imply a new action unless the beat sheet says so.
Time the Handoff Instead of Stacking Motions
Complex prompts often ask the camera to orbit, zoom, pan, tilt, and rise simultaneously. That creates several competing transformations and makes it difficult to diagnose where identity was lost. Sequence them.
A planning beat sheet could read:
- Opening: stable handheld selfie view; subject foreground; red wall on the subject’s left.
- First transition: the camera pans outward while keeping the face visible and the jacket unchanged.
- Middle hold: wider street view becomes readable; subject remains foreground left and keeps walking.
- Second transition: camera rises and pulls back along the street axis; subject becomes smaller without changing path.
- End hold: aerial context is established; red wall and road direction remain identifiable.
These are descriptive beats, not an official control syntax and not a guaranteed remedy. Their purpose is to remove simultaneous demands and create reviewable checkpoints. If the available duration is too short for two stable transitions and holds, simplify the shot or split it into separate clips with an intentional edit point.
Test the Hardest Transition First
The riskiest moment is usually not the opening selfie or the final wide view. It is the frame range where the face shrinks, the background expands, and perspective changes. Test that handoff as a short unit before building a longer sequence.
Use the same identity lock, reference roles, spatial anchors, and transition wording for each candidate. Change one variable at a time. For example, hold the subject action constant while simplifying the camera path. If continuity improves, the earlier motion stack was probably asking for too much at once. If the face still changes, strengthen the identity evidence or keep the face larger for longer.
Track failures with concrete labels:

None of these diagnoses proves a universal fix. They turn an opaque failure into a controlled experiment.
Record Which Route Produced the Test
Wan’s developer is Alibaba, while ClipDance supplies the third-party web route discussed here. Because the same catalog also contains seedance 2.5, a project log should name Wan 3.0 explicitly rather than recording only “ClipDance video.”
ClipDance’s present Wan integration submits through reAPI. The latter is an external API aggregation service that handles model requests and status results; it is not the ClipDance application. Recording the model, mode, references, prompt revision, and accepted output prevents a later rerun from depending on a mistaken product label.
Make the Handoff the Unit of Review
Review the opening, transition, and final state side by side. Confirm the face and clothing first, then the carried object, walking direction, frame position, and surviving landmarks. Watch the transition at normal speed and frame by frame. A smooth camera move does not excuse a one-frame identity swap that becomes obvious on a loop.
The strongest sequence is not necessarily the candidate with the largest camera move. It is the one in which every change has a timed purpose and the unchanged elements remain traceable. Once the hardest handoff passes that test, the surrounding shot can be expanded without asking Wan 3.0 to invent the character, the geography, and the camera path all over again
